View Full Version : Opening pspa dbt files.
Hi all, I have a CD which contains some photos, many I can open, but several files I cannot open as they are marked pspa dbt files. How they became mixed on the CD I do not know.
I did previously believed that I had opened them in Corel Album 6 but this has proved to be a false trail.
Please is there a free, easy & straightforward way to open these pspa dbt files?
Any help will be appreciated
Newbie.

Have you tried Paint Shop Pro? Obviously I've gone for the PSP reference, and realise that it's just as likely to be a PlayStation Portable, but sometimes the obvious answer can be the right one...
Graham :)
Graham, thank you for your reply & suggestion to try Paint Shop Pro.
I have given it a try, along with Corel Photo Album 6, but no luck.
I have Googled pspa dbt & there are several progs that claim to open these files, but no freebies & I don't wish to purchase any progs to open only several photos.
How a CD containing mostly jpg images has come to have pspa dbt files on it is a complete mystery to me.
Thanks again.

Oh well, worth a try.
I guess you've tried simply renaming them?

Are you sure that these are pictures? DBT files are Database Text Files.
Hi Calimanco, it is a mystery how they come to be on a CD with many other jpg files.
When I copied what I believed to be photos to this DVD-R, I was surprised when these dbt files appeared.
If you say that dbt are database text files, I would not knowingly copy any text to a DVD.
I have attempted to open them with all the photo editing progs that are on my PC without any success.

The existence of the pspa file along with the dbt file would make me suspect that the files were created by the camera that the pictures came from intially. The two probably work together, but would need the camera to make use of them.
I would ignore them, you are unlikely to have anything on your PC that will open or use those files.
Information about pspa is here:
http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/33412592/does-publisher-support-th.aspx
PSPA is more of a standard for exchanging digital photographs for school
photography processing. PSPA defines a set of criteria for
sorting/storing images as well as the image content itself to a certain
degree.

Dave, thanks for your reply & it would seem that I cannot open these files without a lot of hassle. The link that you so kindly provided did mention Irvanview as worth a try. It didn't work for me so I will take your advice & ignore them. There is so much that can go wrong for this Newbie to go poking around in the dark.
