Greetings,

I’m in the process of upgrading a few XP machines to W7 and have also custom built a new Windows 7 HE 64-Bit machine.
I have all these machines set to show hidden files and folders.
I had been working abroad since January, and Mrs Spit had been using these computers. On my return, I’ve just noticed long strings of empty folders in the Local folder of each machine. These folders multiply daily … either in singles, twos or occasionally threes.

Properties doesn’t give any info about these empty folders. I’m now trying to identify what program is generating them.
I suspect Windows Live Essentials, probably WL Mail 2011, though I also have Movie Maker and Photo Gallery (not yet used).
I’ve tried checking what triggers these empty folders as they don’t appear at bootup. There’s no pattern such as opening WLM; opening new messages in Inbox; sending messages; forwarding messages; rebooting … they just appear.

I stuck the bulk of them in a new folder named empty folders which I then temporarily stored in the Recycle Bin. The more recent ones above are what is left of approx. 2 hundred similar empty folders.
It’s no surprise that deleting them causes no problems, but obviously there is a bug somewhere.
I could just ignore them, but having hundreds of empty folders (and counting) is a bit messy.

I’d be grateful if some of you using WLM 2011 (and having hidden files and folders shown) checked your Local folder to see if you have similar empty folders.
I suspect that WLM should have been dumping them in the Temp folder instead of the Local folder.
Or is some other program generating these folders ?

Spit

Some of the recent clauses we have seen are onerous and unacceptable and our response has been that we do not care if the agreement is their "standard agreed legal terms" as they have not been agreed with us.

What's going on with Google Toolbar and Firefox? Apparently, Google don't produce a toolbar any more for FF?

The Google Chrome Browser is on this PC, but my Mum was looking for a webpage in Firefox and couldn't find it. Luckily I was around at the time, so I simply copied the web address and pasted it into Chrome - found the page instantly. It's mainly the search engine we'd need.

Tried to download one from Filehippo, and when I tried to install it a message came up saying 'not compatible with Firefox 12'.

So I take it Google are not supporting Mozilla and producing a search engine then (or Mozilla not supporting Google)?

I'm just trying to make matters as simple for my parents as possible - they're wary of change where computers are concerned and Firefox is their preferred browser. (Google Chrome I put on here simply out of curiosity to trial)
